Ormento was said to have been made a member of the Lucchese family in the 1930's and became a top ranking capo under boss Tommy Lucchese and later Carmine Tramunti. He was also a close associate of fellow Lucchese family capo Paul Vario. He was one of the biggest heroin traffickers in New York and across the U.S. in the 1950's and 60's and was involved in the French Connection.
