The Republic of Macedonia is a country in Southeastern Europe that is landlocked by Albania to the west, Greece to the south, Bulgaria to the east and Serbia up in the north. The prefix "Former Yugoslav" is sometimes added to form the country's alternate name used by international organizations (although most countries recognize it simply as Republic of Macedonia, which is the country's official name) to avoid confusion with the region of the same name and a naming dispute with Greece.
