  • "One Step Closer" is a song by Linkin Park Lead singer Chester Bennington wrote this to express the anger he felt growing up. He didn't fit in well and got beat up a lot. Bennington wanted kids who hate themselves at times to know that he went through the same thing. He did not intend it as an excuse for self-pity or anger. This song was made after the band had frustrations making "Runaway," another song on the album. (thanks, William - Indiana, IN) Hybrid Theory was the original name of the band. They used it as the name of the album, which was the best-selling album of 2001.
  • "One Step Closer" is the debut single by the nu metal band Linkin Park released in 2000 and the second track of their debut album, Hybrid Theory. It is also the song that catapulted the band to stardom, especially towards the rock audience, as well as one of the band's well-known songs. The song reached number 79 on the Hot 100 on February 20, 2001. The track was firstly known as 'Plaster', a supposed "demo" version of One Step Closer. This early version featured Bennington screaming "shut up" in the beginning of the song, as well as during the bridge.
