Designed and initially produced by McDonnell Douglas, the Ghoststriker first flew in 1993. Prototypes were tested by G.I. Joe pilot Ace, and limited production began in September 1997, after the merger of McDonnell Douglas and Boeing the previous month. The Ghoststriker entered service with the G.I. Joe as a prototype in 1993, serving alongside the Skystriker.
