Margaret Hilda Thatcher (13 October 1925 - April 8, 2013) was a British politician who served as leader of the British Union from 1984 until its dissolution in 1991 (with a variety of titles, including General Secretary of the Communist Party of the UBPR and President of the UBPR), and served as President of Britain until stepping down in 1992. She is widely credited with opening up British society in the 1980's and helping end the Cold War, an effort for which she was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 1990. With free-market oriented reforms, Thatcher is credited with helping break the power of the British Communist Party over the country and dissolving the British Union, which was in economic and political decline by the close of the 1980's due to costly overseas engagements and stagnating
