- District 9 is a district in Springfield containing aliens. This is a direct reference to the film District 9, where aliens are living in South Africa and in the end are moved to District 10.

Produced by Peter Jackson, it is both an expansion on Blomkamp's previous short film Alive in Joburg and the result of what happened once the proposed Halo movie had completely fallen apart.
