Between 1955 and 2007, Franklyn-Robbins appeared in many television series such as Z Cars, Softly Softly, Special Branch, Paul Temple, Play for Today, Casualty and Midsomer Murders as well as the voice of the Dream Maker in the animated series The Dream Stone. His film roles include the animated movie The Plague Dogs, Dr. Jekyll and Ms. Hyde, Vanity Fair and The Golden Compass.

In both film and television, Franklyn-Robbins was a familiar face in projects ranging from period drama to science fiction and fantasy. He guest starred on Doctor Who (as a Time Lord in "Genesis of the Daleks"), Star Trek: The Next Generation (as rebel leader Macias in "Preemptive Strike"), The Avengers, and the Mystery! series starring Albert Campion, Lord Peter Wimsey, and Inspector Alleyn. He also played Atticus in I, Claudius, had prominent roles in TV versions of Shakespeare's The Merchant of Venice and The Taming of the Shrew, and recently appeared as the dean in Terry Pratchett's Hogfather.

Between 1955 and 2007, Franklyn-Robbins appeared in many television series such as Z Cars, Softly Softly, Special Branch, Paul Temple, Play for Today, Casualty and Midsomer Murders as well as the voice of the Dream Maker in the animated series The Dream Stone. Franklyn-Robbins is one of the actors to have appeared in both the Star Trek and Doctor Who franchises. He and Guy Siner both appeared in the 1975 Doctor Who serial Genesis of the Daleks. He portrayed Mister Crump the Undertaker in 1999 television film adaptation of A Christmas Carol which starred Patrick Stewart as Ebenezer Scrooge. Franklyn-Robbins died on 21 March 2009 at the age of 84. [1]
