- The Ascendants were a humanoid species native to the Gamma Quadrant. They were a race of religious zealots that were intrinsically linked with the Eav'oq, the Bajorans, and the Prophets of Bajor.
- The Ascendant appear to have biological control over electromagnetic force and their cell samples show electrocyte-like formations. They likely use implants or other equipment to amplify and control this ability. If provoked, they can unleash a ball-lightning-like attack which conducts electricity to nearby enemies. They can also yank an enemy off the ground.
- Ascendants appear in Legacy of the Void as a variant of the high templar. They are the Tal'darim faction option in the "psionic warrior" category, alongside the high templar and the dark archon. The ascendant's offensive abilities are Psionic Orb and Mind Blast, which do heavy damage to enemies, and it has the support ability Sacrifice, which allows it to drain life from an ally to restores its own energy.
- Ascendants were individuals who had transcended death. They formerly had been called First Heroes. Ascendants could become gods if they gained sufficient following among mortals but they were not gods by default. They were more or less immortal, but could be killed. They had access to magic, even if they were not mages prior to their ascension. Oponn maintained that Ascendants would try to rig every game and that Oponn delighted in uncertainty. They also stated that Shadowthrone and The Rope did not play fair.
