Following the fall of Rome, the Magyars, the Hungarians, started to settle the region. They were originally barbarians that came to Asia and were some of the Empire of Charlemagne's greatest enemies. During the late 9th century, Hungarian prince Arpad, the great grandson on Saint Stephen I, was crowned king of Hungary by the pope in 1000 AD, starting the existence of the nation. It was considered a "state" of the Austrian-Hugnarian Empire since the 1820's. After the First Great War though, Hungary became an independent nation allied to France. Russian attempts to annex if caused the country to go under French protection. During the Second Great War, Hungary was overrun by the Russians before they were expelled. During the Thurd Great War, Hungary became a Mosleist state, allied against France. After its defeat, it has been under Russian occupation. After the occupation though, a pro-French government with the help of France manage to seize power. It was part of the French side during the Cold War until the end. The millennium-old monarchy is still in place in the country and is now friendly with former enemy Russia.
