  • Laura Rowens was the wife of a Marine who was serving in Iraq at the time. She was alone in her house when rapist/murderer Jeremy Davison broke into her home, intending to rape and kill her. Fearing for her life, Laura drew her gun and shot Jeremy in self-defense, resulting in the NCIS Major Case Response Team being called in to investigate the scene. NCIS later believed that Rowens and Davison had communicated online given that Special Agents Leroy Jethro Gibbs and Caitlin Todd later discovered various messages from her to Davison in Davison's apartment. Unfortunately, the theory fell apart when it was revealed that Rowens hadn't even written the e-mails at all, causing her to be released from custody. She later fell into the suspect pool again when hacker Victor Grotinski was found dead in his apartment, having had his throat cut, a technique that Donald Mallard noted was a technique Marines were taught to use to kill enemy sentries. It was later revealed that Jeremy's "sister", Michelle Davison had taken the eyes and planted them at Laura's house in hopes of getting her arrested for the crime but NCIS later discovered the truth and arrested both Michelle and Jeremy. As a result, Laura was eventually found innocent and released without charge.
