A series of five five-second flashes appeared sporadically through the April 29, 2009 airing of "The Variable," the fourteenth episode of the fifth season of Lost. A clip was shown during each commercial break during the episode, and was followed by the phrase "What did you see?." A week later, during the airing of the Lost episode "Follow the Leader," an expanded promo was shown, with more clips added, with a voice-over stating that "Just because we saw these things doesn't mean they're going to happen." These clips are a hidden promotion for the Mosaic Collective website, where viewers were encouraged to submit descriptions of the flashes they saw. These first five flashes were of a funeral, schoolchildren, a wedding, an untrasound of an unborn fetus, and a surfer.
