Flora, Schierke's teacher, has also said that wizards live on the island to escape persecution for their art. The island is purported to be a place of high spiritual activity. As Isma's mother explained to Guts and his company, due to the unnatural flow of time, a day on the island can be the same as decades outside its shores (the exact amount of time is unknown). When Guts and his company reach ashore, they find themselves facing obstacles while being observed by a witch coven who use golems to attack them before Gedfring orders them to cease the attack on their guests.
  • A Letter to Joy By: Maria Colsa Dear Joy: These past few weeks have been very stressful for all of us. When dad bought the house I was angry I felt he was moving me away from my friends, my home, my confort zone. I was even more angry when mum became pregnant with you. I apologize for those feelings I had towards you. You are special..you are my baby sister who I love and will always help take care of. Dad has worked so hard on making our new home perfect for us all. I have been helping dad clean so that your home coming would be even more welcoming. While cleaning out the storage shed I found something or someone whom I believe to be your guardian angel and my friend, "Skellig." I also made another new friend, Mina whom I am sure you will get to know very well; she will make sure of that.
  • Skellig is the titular protagonist of both the book and the movie of the same name. He is presumed to be an angel, the movie states outright he is, but the book keeps his nature deliberately ambigious.

Sometimes she's a little on the "uppity" side, a Miss Know it All, but mostly she's extraordinary. I know you are too young to understand any of this right now but someday you will. Mina has become my best friend she helped me understand my true feelings about you and what you were going through when you were ill. She taught me how to really listen. While you were in the hospital I could not only feel your heart beating, but I could here it. We were connnect you and I. During your surgery I could feel you died. Skellig brought you back; to me, to us. Mum thinks Skellig is nothing but a angel in her dream, Mina and I know differently. He was with you, caring for you, making you better and strong enought to survive the surgery. He is gone now, he has gone to help others. He is well thanks to Mina and I; and you are well thanks to him. I only hope we will someday see him again. He is truly amazing..."Extraordinary." I love you little sister.... Michael P.S. Joy fits you well, thank god dad and mum didn't go with Butch, Gus, or Buster. Writers Note: I chose to write a letter to the baby. I believe Michael and her will forever be connected in more than one way. By writing a letter it will force Joy to ask questions when she is older and able to understand. Michael will be able to discuss with her what he experienced with Skellig and what he believed Skellig represented to her or himself. This story showed the love of family and the trust of friendship. Mina and Michael where meant to be together. They were able to learn from each other and felt a need for one another. Michaels parents were comforting towards him never making him feel less important. Mum always expressed her love towards him and dad expressed concern for Michaels feelings allowing him to stay home, having dinner with him, etc.

  • Skellig is the titular protagonist of both the book and the movie of the same name. He is presumed to be an angel, the movie states outright he is, but the book keeps his nature deliberately ambigious. Skellig is a very antisocial, somewhat rude man who initially appears very old, and lies on the floor of Michael's garage, shrouded in dust, insects, spiders and the like. Skellig eats the insects, and other food such as Chinese takeaways which the previous owner of the house threw in the bin each night. Skellig is implied to have been more active in his youth, as he was able to walk in the past. However, when Michael meets him, he is lethargic, constantly lying in the dust, and whimpering in pain. Skellig is revealed to be suffering from athritis, which is why he suffers. Unsure of whether Skellig is a hallucination from trauma of his baby sister's illness and the stress of moving and having a new school, Michael asks his friend Mina to come along and show her Skellig. To his surprise, she does see Skellig, and they return to Skellig and move him into Mina's abandoned family house. Skellig is suddenly revealed to be much younger than he seemed, looking like he is in his thirties. Skellig also seems to have hunched-up muscular masses under his jacket, indicating wings. Skellig suddenly gets more energetic, and more lively and humourous. He is grateful to Michael and Mina for giving him another shot at life and he takes advantage of everything. Skellig eats mice and such small creatures, and he is friends with owls. He teaches Michael and Mina how to fly, and he even goes as far as healing Michael's terminally ill sister. He actually revives her from a coma. Skellig shows Michael how he saved his sister and then he departs indiscreetly in the book, leaving them a thank you note, but in the movie he ascends his wings and flies off in Michael and Mina's view after thanking them.

Guts' party is welcomed by Gedfring and the island natives, after chastising Morda for her behavior, and they are lead through the woods to a witch coven and a chapel where the island's archmages await. There, the party's adventures up til now, Guts' identity, and Griffith's machinations are discussed, before they continue their journey to meet King Hanafubuku. Venturing into the woods and to a massive spirit tree blooming with cherry blossoms, they are finally allowed to meet the King of the Elves, who has actually been with them since they left the chapel: Danann.
