| - Autumn 1979 - Ted Kennedy launches the "Coast to Coast for Kennedy", giving over 400 speeches all over the country. In Iran, the Shah is overthrown by an Islamic revolution, 55 American ambassadors are taken hostage in Tehran. January 1980 - Carter's approval ratings are at an all time low of 37%, Carter loses the Iowa Democratic Primary to Kennedy. Ronald Reagan leads in the Republican Primaries. March 1980 - Kennedy receives a poll rating of 65% among Democrats after his monumental speech "The Dreams of the New Deal and my Brother Marches on." Carter campaign is a bust except in the Deep South. Negotiations with the Iranians continue with little luck. June 1980 - Kennedy publicly states that if he were president he would bring the hostages home with an iron fist. After failed rescue attempts by Carter it is almost certain that Kennedy will win the Democratic Nomination. July 1980 - George Bush and Howard Baker are nominated as the Republican Candidates in Detroit. August 1980 - Carter concedes to Kennedy at the Democratic Convention in New York, Kennedy appoints William Proxmire as his running mate. September 22 1980- Iraq invades Iran starting the Iran Iraq War October 1980 - Kennedy and Bush are even in the polls and engage in a bitter campaign. Anger between the right and left of America boils over into open riots in Philadelphia between Conservatives and Liberals on the 20th. In response to this, Bush and Kennedy hold a joint rally of American Friendship in Philadelphia to lessen ideological tension and create a sense of unity. November 6th 1980 - Senator Kennedy wins the election by a mere 100,000 votes in the closest election in American History. The Democrats keep the Senate and the House of Representatives. However, Kennedy faces complications because he did not win the electoral vote. The case goes to the Supreme Court. November 9th 1980 - In the case Kennedy vs. Bush, it is suggested that the presidency be given to Reagan due to the electoral vote; this creates wide-spread anger among the left and Pro-Kennedy Demonstrations in New York City, Washington, Philadelphia, Miami, Boston and Cleveland. The proposal of the Supreme Court is deplored by the Congress. November 11th 1980 - Faced with pressure, the Supreme Court Judges state that popular ballot cannot be overruled. Kennedy is declared winner of the 1980 election. December 31st 1980 - Kennedy is named Time Person of the Year. January 20th 1981 - Edward Kennedy is inaugurated as the 40th president of the United States of America. Within hours of his giving his Inaugural Address, the Iranians let the hostages go. March 12-20th 1981 - President Kennedy goes on tour to NATO members. April 10-21st 1981 - President Kennedy goes on tour to Latin America and the Caribbean, excluding Cuba. April 12th 1981 - The first space shuttle Columbia launches from Kennedy Space Center into space. May 10th-17th 1981 - President Kennedy goes on tour to Egypt, Arabia and Sub-Saharan Countries. May 19th-23nd 1981 - President Kennedy goes to Japan, South Korea and Taiwan. May 29th 1981 - President Kennedy passes the Worker Renewal Act, placing tariffs on nations that use sweat shop labour, establishing a minimum wage at $7.00, and giving grants to new small business. July 3rd 1981 - Associate Justice of the Supreme Court Potter Stewart retires. New York State Supreme Court Justice Sol Wachtler is appointed by Kennedy. August 5rd 1981 - In response to an Aircraft Controller Strike, Ted Kennedy responded by raising wages, establishing a 32 hour work week and repealing the Taft-Hartley Act of 1947. August 15th 1981 - President Kennedy passes the Universal Health Care Act, nationalizing the insurance industry. He receives criticism from the Republicans. Because of the criticism, his approval rating hovers around 51%. December 8th 1981 - President Kennedy passes the Breathable America Act, giving initiatives to Tobacco Companies who work to make a cleaner cigarette and raising taxes for those who don't. February 13th 1982 - President Kennedy passes the Green America Act, looking for new ideas for an electric car and giving $400 million to Amtrack to build a high-speed rail from Los Angeles to New York. The law also includes raising taxes on Oil Companies by 20%. Lastly, he authorizes the construction of 200,000 windmills. April 10th-17th 1982- President Kennedy goes to Leningrad (St. Petersburg) to hold talks with General Secretary Leonid Brezhnev, they both sign the St.Petersburg Accords. Which works on limiting Nuclear Weapons by both nations, it also makes an uneasy alliance. The Soviet Union will allow Eastern European Members to hold free elections in 1986. In return the United States will send 200 million in yearly aid to help the Soviets win the war in Afghanistan. His Gallop approval rating rises to 54% as some credit him with ending the Cold War. May 2nd 1982 - William Luther Pierce, prominent leader in the American Nazi Party, attempts to assassinate President Kennedy at a local speech to computer artists in Silicon Valley. While Kennedy is shot in the shoulder, it is not severe and the bullet is expelled. He stays hospitalized for six days. Pierce, meanwhile, is captured the day after the failed assassination attempt and is executed on August 10th 1985. October 12th 1982 - President Kennedy passes the Fair Tax Act cutting them for the working classes and raising taxes for those making more than $450k a year by 15%. November 6th 1982 - In the Mid Term Elections the Democrats gain one Senate seat and a net of six Representatives. November 12th 1982 - Yuri Andropov becomes the next General Secretary of the Soviet Union and pledges to abide by the St. Petersburg Accords. December 31sth 1982 - Ted Kennedy and Leonid Brezhnev are both named Time Persons of the Year. Januray 30th 1983 - Kennedy cuts military spending by 30%. May 1983 - The economy has continued its recovery and is progressing well. August 1983 - Former Minnesota Governor Harold Stassen forms the Right Wing Group "Americans For Morality and Good Faith" (AMGF). The group begins to engage in open - and controversial - criticism of President Ted Kennedy and his supporters. January 1984 - Americans for Morality and Good Faith March on Washington is 4,000 strong. February 1984 - Senator Strom Thurmond and CIA director George H.W. Bush are both even in the Republican Primaries, Kennedy runs virtually unopposed by his own party. May 1984 - Senator Thurmond with the help of the AMGF gains the upper hand against George Bush. August 23th 1984 - In the Republican National Convention of Dallas, Texas, Thurmond is nominated as the Republican Candidate of the 1984 election George H. W. Bush is appointed as running mate for Stassen. November 6th 1984 - President Kennedy wins reelection over Thurmond wins by a landslide 60% to 38%. Januray 20th 1985 - President Kennedy is re-inaugurated as President of the United States. March 1985 - President Kennedy announces that the U.S budget will begin to break even in the 1986 fiscal year. July 1985 - Electric Cars now make up 15% of Ford's Production due to encouragements and subsidies from the government. September 10-13 1985 - President Kennedy reaches his peak approval rating of 79% in the Gallup polls. November 20th 1985 - Rising computer programer Bill Gates releases the first version of Windows, a defining moment in his career. February 10th 1986 - After nearly four years of Joint Soviet-American efforts in Afghanistan, the Mujahdeen is overwhelmed. Afghanistan is formally handed over to the Soviet Union in the Treaty of Novosibirsk. Yuri Andrpov states that he will free Eastern Europe and complete the Soviet's end on the bargain. February 13th 1986 - After four years of relative peace and quiet in Soviet Dominated Europe, the Slavic-German Spring takes hold in East Germany, Ukraine, Poland, Hungary, Albania, Yugoslavia and Czechoslovakia. Over a total of 10 million take part in Independence Demonstrations. February 15th 1986 - President Kennedy goes to Berlin and demands the Soviet Union to end German Division. February 21th 1986 - After a week of negotiations with resistance leaders it is agreed that the Soviet Union will dissolve into the OFSR (Organzation of Former Soviet Republics), giving members near complete autonomy, ushering Free Market Reforms. The OFSR is a organization of Mutual Defense and common Currency, the New Ruble. February 22nd 1986 - Recognized internationally as the first day of the Post-Cold War age. April 5th 1986- Libyan agents attack La Belle nightclub killing 226 in West Berlin. April 14th 1986- West Germany carries out Operation Total Justice bombing strategic points within the Libyan Military, Ted Kennedy gives American Support. Despite seriously weakening Moammar Gaddafi's Government, Gaddafi survives. 'April 10th 1986 - Large Demonstrations form in Beijing, China, centered in Tiananmen Square demanding social change and reform. The Protesters are frustrated by economic stagmentation and lack of work. April 12th 1986 - Demonstrations grow to 100,000: the Chinese Government does not respond. April 17th 1986 Tiananmen Demonstrations grow to 1,000,000, General Secretary of the Chinese Communist Party Jiang Zemin asks the protesters to leave the square. "A state functions on the allegiance of the people for the glory of the people, please give us back your allegiance so we can serve you." April 25th 1986 - Tiananmen Demonstrations have continued to grow to 2,000,000. April 26th 1986 - Tiananmen protesters build a statue near a portrait of Mao Zedong. The Goddess of Liberty, similar to the American Statue of Liberty. April 26th 1986 - A Nuclear Powerplant in Chernobyl in the Former Soviet Republic of Ukraine melts down displacing 300,000 people. April 29th 1986 - Jiang Zemin gives the Tiananemen Square protesters a final warning to leave the square in 72 hours. May 1st 1986 - Reports come in that Chinese Demonstrations appear in Canton and other cities on the coast of the South China Sea. May 2 1986 - NATO makes an official statement to China warning that action against the protesters could bring consequences. May 3rd 1986 - Chinese troops fire into Tiananmen square killing 20,000, the protesters fight back with sticks, stones and revolvers. May 5th 1986 - Beijing falls into total civil conflict between protesters and government troops, May 7th 1986 - The UN passes a bill of sanctions against the People's Republic of China, unsurprisingly it is vetoed by the PRC. May 10th 1986 - Ted Kennedy asks Congress to withdraw recognition from the PRC. The House of Representatives and the Senate both vote affirmative on this proposal, acknowledging the Republic of China in Taiwan as the only Chinese State. Other NATO members plan to follow suit while the OFSR only participates in the U.N sanctions not making their own embargo. May 11th 1986 - After six days of brutal inner city fighting the rebellion is suppressed with the death of over 100,000 Chinese Civilians May 13th 1986 - Despite the Government's victory over the Chinese Liberty Movement in Beijing the nation has fallen into civil war. Culminated with international isolation Jiang Zemin steps down as general secretary. He opens talks with Bao Tong, founder of the original protests. The UN agrees to host them. May 27th 1986 - The Treaty of Queens is signed at the UN by Hu Yaobang, Ted Kennedy, Jiang Zemin and Yuri Andropov. The exiled government in Taiwan will return as a care-taker government until November Elections. Due to economic depression that has been lingering since the failed free-market reforms, it will receive international aid. June 15th 1986 - Bao Tong, is shot twice in public in the hip and the leg. He soon dies uttering his last words "Oh, China, first to lead humanity, dark night and bright morning has passed on her people, but this is an entirely New Spring that shall penetrate through the ages... His assassin escapes angry crowds, his identity or whereabouts remains unknown to this day. July 1st 1986 - The Gallup Polls reports that President Ted Kennedy's approval ratings stand at 56%. August 2nd 1986 - President Ted Kennedy announces a goal to put a man on Mars by 2013. Laying out a plan of steadily increased funding in NASA. Skeptics accuse the President of making Pipe Dreams in imitation of his older brother's goal to put a man on the moon. November 6th 1986 - The Democrats gain one Senate seat, ten Representatives and a Governorship in South Carolina with the election of Michael R. Daniel. Libertarian Sherry E. Huber becomes Governor of Maine. Joe Volger of The Alaskan Independence Party becomes Governor of Alaska. Computer Scientist Bill Gates becomes a Representative from Oregon. December 1986 - Bao Tong is named Time's Person of the Year. February 11th 1987 - In Juneau, Alaska, the Alaskan State Representatives have a vote on whether to secede from the United States. It is stuck down by five votes. March 5th 1987 - President Ted Kennedy declares to the disappointment of his core voters that he will not attempt to repeal the 22nd Amendment in order to run for a third term. April 2nd 1987 - Yugoslavia, after almost a year of maintaining stability, dissipates. Croatia and Macedonia declare independence, demonstrators fill the streets of Belgrade. April 3rd 1987 - Yugoslav soldiers fire on demonstrators killing 212, the U.N threatens affirmative action against Yugoslavia. April 5th 1987 - Slovenia declares independence. April 7th 1987 - Bosnia and Herzegovina declares independence. April 11th 1987 - The European Union recognizes the New Republics, plans are made to admit them in the Union. April 18th 1987 - Treaty of Paris is signed, the remnants of Yugoslavia become Serbia, Serbia recognizes the new breakaway nations as sovereign republics. June 10th 1987 - President Ted Kennedy recognize Vietnam an independent nation. June 14th 1987 - Secretary of State Jerry Brown announces that he will run for President in the 1988 election. August 14th 1987 - After demands by Green Activist to move away from Nuclear Energy, President Ted Kennedy passes the Radiation Containment Act, making a timetable to close all American Nuclear Plants by 2015. July 6th 1988 - Pat Robertson becomes the Republican Nominee at the Republican National Convention in Richmond, Virginia August- Jerry Brown becomes the Democratic Nominee at the Democratic National Convention in Tampa Florida October 11th 1988- Pat Robertson releases an A-D attacking Vice President Nominee Dukakis on allegations of poor mental health, this backfires terribly and Robertson's ratings dip to 40%. November 6th 1988- Democrats Brown/Dukakis win against Republicans Robertson/Quayle for the Presidency
