Zedd was born a mutant with a third eye on his forehead. Because of this, he was abandoned shortly after he was born. His life after that was even worse. He spent his entire young life on the streets struggling to survive. Because he never learned his last name, he adopted the name of his idol Anakin Skywalker as a way to both honor him and to hopefully make people overlook his mutation. His master decided to test his skill with the force and found out that his skill with telekinesis and lightsaber combat was at an advanced level for a padawan, but he had almost no skill with telepathy or any other mental aspects of the force. Zedd told him that he could use telepathy and showed that he could read his master's mind, but his master said that though he was reading his mind, he wasn't using the force to do it. He eventually realized that his telepathy came from his third eye. Zedd was furious that the most important aspect of the his force talent came from the mutant third eye which he hated since the day he was born. His master said that he assumed that a member of the Skywalker family could accept being a mutant, but Zedd told him that he wasn't really a member of the Skywalker family and used the name to honor Anakin Skywalker and to make his life easier. His master then told him that he was disappointed that he would use the name of a famous Jedi to make his life easier, especially the name of a murderous traitor. Zedd didn't know that Anakin had abandoned the Jedi to become Darth Vader and asked his master why he called Anakin a traitor. His master told him how he betrayed the Jedi and became the apprentice to the leader of the Sith, but Zedd didn't believe him. In a state of blind rage, he attacked his master and demanded that he take back what he said about Anakin. He knew that Zedd would kill him if he didn't fight back, so the two of them engaged in a fight to the death. During the fight, Zedd was accidentally cut in half by his master, but that didn't even slow him down. Despite missing half of his body, he was able to use his lightsaber to nearly take out his master. As a last resort, his master then cut off Zedd's arms and crushed his skull. His master realized that he went too far, so he took Zedd to the nearest town they could find to give him medical attention. When Zedd finally woke up, he saw that over half of his body was now cybernetic. Zedd then destroyed most of the town in a fit of rage. His master then said that he should be grateful that he saved his life, but Zedd told him that he didn't save his life, he ruined his life. He then used the force to pull his master's lightsaber into his hand and killed him with his own lightsaber. Zedd then realized that he would never be accepted by anyone since he was now a mutant and a cyborg, but decided that he no longer wanted people to accept him, he wanted people to fear him. He then turned his back on everything his master taught him and followed the same path that Anakin did to becoming a Sith.
