In the duration that he was left hidden, her master was able to instruct Alvara on various usages in the Force. Unfortunately, she never received any formal training, as their time was cut short, and he was slain by Darth Vader. It was up to her to learn what she could. Knowing she would put her family in danger, Alvara left her homeworld and sought out to complete her training on her own. The journey, she found, was far more perilous than she knew, but eventually she overcame. When the call for Jedi was sent out, she was among the many that responded, and made haste to Midpoint Station. From that point, she joined the Jedi on Onderon and continued her studies. Alvara would later relocate to Taylon and join the City of the Jedi, and subsequently, the Guardians of Life. She was a participant in the Hunt for Sion, but became a casualty as she fell victim to Sion's hunger.
