Besides the Smurfs, Benco also appeared in a series of stories in 1978 in which he had adventures with another Peyo character, Benny Breakiron. These stories were published in Spirou (the Smurfs' comic of origin) and rival publications like Le Journal de Mickey (a weekly comic featuring Walt Disney's Mickey Mouse and Donald Duck). A television advertisement featuring Benco and the Smurfs was also shown in the late-1970s in Belgium.
