- A P-Switch is a block with ? on it in the Mario series. Its effects vary depending on the game and the color. They were introduced in Super Mario Bros. 3 and later appeared in Super Mario World and New Super Mario Bros. Regardless of the color or game, the P-Switch will always benefit the player when hit (for example, some may turn blocks into coins, or some may turn enemies into power-ups).

* Blue P-Switches cause Coins, Rupees and blocks to appear in certain areas. These are sometimes used as part of a timed maze.
* Yellow P-Switches turn coins into blocks and vice-versa. These are often used to create platforms or open pathways.
* Green P-Switches are similar to the above ones, but can be used again once their timer has reset.
