High School DxD began as a Japanese light novel series written by Ichiei Ishibumi and illustrated by Miyama-Zero. The series began serialization in Fujimi Shobo's Dragon Magazine in its September 2008 issue. The first volume was released in Japan on September 20, 2008, with a total of twenty volumes available as of July 18, 2015 under their Fujimi Fantasia Bunko imprint. To accommodate the growing number of short stories published, a series of light novels, the DX series, that will act as a compilation was created. The first Volume under this series was released in Japan on March 10, 2015.
