When looking for a good name Medvedev stated he 'wanted something less worn than The Bowling Friends.' He came up with the silly name and the other founding members instantly liked it. The often-used shortened version of the club name is said to come from a verbal fight between a member and a critic. The supposed critic referred to the club as 'those damn Nihilists' and the member would have responded they were the 'Nam Nihilists. This claim was never acknowledged and most people think the story was made up as a contribution to the image of the club. The logo of the bowling team consists of a bowling ball depicting the South Vietnamese flag and the letter N. The team said they choose the old flag to avoid any political connotation and because the colors fitted better into the design.
