| - Damarys was born into a well-connected, wealthy family living in the prestigious Onyx Towers on Coruscant. Her father presided over a mighty galaxy-spanning conglomerate, the Vethi'shaan Integrity. When Damarys was a young girl, the Battle of Endor shattered the invincible Empire of her childhood. As uprisings against Imperial rule swept through the ecumenopolis, opportunistic rioting and looting spread with it. Damarys was dragged from her bed by a nanny, and her family tried to flee. Her mother Imri was killed by a looter's blaster. None of the adults in Damarys' life could, or would dare, to explain to her how the Empire could have lost that day; what the Imperials did wrong, what the Rebels did right, and what the Empire would do to correct the situation. A month, two weeks, and three days later, Damarys resolved to find out for herself--and do something about it. From that point onward, she took a deep interest in military matters, especially strategy and tactics. Her father refused to let her enter the Imperial Academy to train as a TIE pilot, so she took up starfighter racing and sport dogfighting as a "hobby" in order to gain skills, while attending the Imperial Institute for Strategic Studies in pursuit of a Masters degree in military strategy and tactics.Starfighter sports career
Damarys flew Thunderhawk sport racer/dogfighters in the BaStaR (Bastion Starfighter Racing) circuit, and was a member of the Sartinaynian Flying Tigers, a Triple-A dogfighting team. In her final year of university, she placed first in the Phaeda Classic and the Taris City Slalom, and took fourth place in overall point totals for the season. In dogfighting, her win-loss record for her final year was 15 and 5, and she won a second place trophy for Singles competition Instead of looking for an entry into a Major League dogfighting team, Damarys applied for the real thing: the Imperial Starfighter Corps. Aware that her father would object to this--his plan for her centered on her meeting a single Admiral and marrying well--she used her time at the Institute to subtly nudge the family business into Navy contracts. After graduation, she timed her application to the Starfighter Corps to coincide with the renewal dates of several of the most lucrative contracts, so that her father would not be able to use heavy-handed string-pulling to yank her out of the Corps without jeopardizing a singificant portion of the Vethi'shaan Integrity's revenues.Family
