| - Like most weapons, they are useful until a better weapon is found. Offensive power is on par with an above-average regular quarterstaff - not overwhelming. The defensive bonuses and boost to Mana are useful, but despite the item's name, usefulness for spellcasters shouldn't be overstated since they generally have little problems raising their Mana scores anyway and might be better off wielding a shield for protection.
