Carcosa is termed the 'Nameless City' in Litany To Hastur. H.P. Lovecraft wrote a story called The Nameless City about a subterranean ruin in Arabia that had been inhabited by reptillian beings when it was located upon the shores of a sea or lake (and was previously located under water) - the ruins are compared to Sarnath by Lovecraft. Although Lovecraft does not appear to have intended any relationship, it is possible that Lin Carter is drawing one in his poem.
