The RG685 features an ash body bolted to a maple neck with a 24-fret rosewood fingerboard with sharktooth position makers. Components include active Ibanez Lo-Z pickups with a humbucker at the bridge and single-coils at the neck and middle positions, an Edge double locking tremolo bridge with a locking nut and Gotoh tuning machines. The RG678 is a similar model with passive pickups. The RG685 was available only in Japan and was discontinued after 1989.
