New Quebec (French: Nouveau-Québec), officially known as the Republic of New Quebec, is a sovereign state located in eastern Aphrodite Terra on planet Venus. Colonization began in the late 1990s by a group of French Canadians who had favored independence from Canada. These settlements grew throughout the 2000s, with those of predominantly French descent moving into the region (including Acadians, Cajuns, and Pieds-Noirs). New Quebec formally declared their independence in 2009 as part of the independence wave on Venus at the time. Tensions between New Quebec and its former colonizers began shortly after independence, as the new nation quickly established good relations with Cassini, New Kamchatka, and the Soviet Union. Despite these early hurdles, New Quebec gained full recognition by 2011. Located within Ulfrun Regio, New Quebec has humid and tropical climate. Jungles and rainforests cover most of the region.
