- History of Magic is a core class and subject taught at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. This class is a study of magical history. This is one of the subjects where the use of magic practically isn't necessary. History of Magic is taught from the first year to the fifth, with the option of N.E.W.T. courses in sixth and seventh year. The professor of this subject taught at Hogwarts for many years before his death he was Cuthbert Binns and even after his death he continued teaching as a ghost.
- History of Magic is a subject compulsory from first through to fifth year, and is an optional subject for students wanting to progress their education into sixth and seventh year. Focusing on the History of not only magic itself, but the wars, riots and revolutions throughout the magical world. Often viewed as a boring subject, the subjects itself are found to be quite interesting, it is however the teaching style of the ghost Professor Binns that may cause students to become restless within it's teachings. An O.W.L subject, all students are required to attend, pass and complete academic work for the history and have a sound knowledge of the basics of historical world magical history after fifth year.

- Early humans at Brimir's time (around 6,340 years before Louise summoned Saito) can all use elemental magic, provided they have wands and know the incantation. This might only apply to Brimir's tribe though. The mages can use all four elements freely and can cast magic from as young as age 5. Though combining them into line/triangle/square class spells were still impossible to begin with, and multiple mages need to cast the same spell to make it more powerful. At the time summoning rituals are not yet created, but binding a familiar to a mage is still possible as Brimir and Sasha demonstrated.
- Lord Ao created the universe. At first it was nothing but energy, with neither light nor dark, heat nor cold. Eventually the energy created two deities – Selûne and Shar. Together they created heavens and Chauntea, the embodiment of the world of Toril. Chauntea begged for light and warmth so that she could create life on the new world, but Shar opposed this vehemently. The subsequent war between the sisters created new deities – war, murder, and destruction among them. When Selûne lit one of the nearby heavenly bodies on fire to provide the light and warmth needed, Shar became enraged, trying to extinguish light everywhere. Selûne tore the energy from her own body and flung it at Shar, where it joined with Shar's energy and passed from both of them, thus creating the goddess of magic, Myst

| - History of Magic is one of the classes at Hogwarts. It is mandatory for first-year students to take. While Harry Potter is at the school, it is taught by the ghostly Professor Binns.
Selûne tore the energy from her own body and flung it at Shar, where it joined with Shar's energy and passed from both of them, thus creating the goddess of magic, Mystryl. The birth of Mystryl not only brought a truce to Selûne and Shar, but created the Weave. In the newly created Toril, magic abounded in everything, but in its raw state it was too dangerous for mortals to use. The Weave is a like a fabric, consisting of many threads, all woven together to create an intricate design. Spellcasting and the use of magic items pulls individual threads and reweaves them, creating a new design. Now both mortals and deities could use magic through this fabric that was both the embodiment of Mystryl and a conduit to raw magic.
Contrary to current-day mages' indoctrination, the elemental magic did not come from Brimir's Void. Brimir's tribe had elemental magic before Brimir is born. Brimir stated himself his power is given from God, and he is to use it to defeat a then more-powerful and technologically-advanced race that threatened to drive humanity (and the elves) to extinction. Magic has progressed from then by research and development, though the results are hardly ever used to increase the standard of living for 'commoners'; it is mostly for nobles and the military. As Void Magic had lain dormant for almost 6,000 years, it had made no progress. Despite that, the familiar Mind of God is capable of combining Void magic with Firstborn Magic, and can perform magic feats beyond anything modern-day mages is capable of. Not much is known about evolution of elven magic, except some techniques that are passed down from 6,000 years ago are known to most elves. One such technique is the forging of 'Sentient Blades', weapons that have their own will and possess special powers. Derflinger is one such 'Sentient Blade', forged by Sasha, and in Volume 19 when Saito and Tiffania are taken to the elven capital city a set of twin blades forged within the last few decades are used against Saito.
