In the Eldest chapter Red Blade, White Blade, the elf Vanir quoted the famous line "How swift is your sword!" following his defeat in a sparring match by his rival Eragon. Eragon had obtained a half-elven agility (following the Blood-Oath Celebration) which came as something of a surprise to Vanir, whose arm was broken by Zar'roc in the match. The Lay of Umhodan was, along with the Deed of Gëda and The Lay of Vestarí the Mariner, one of Eragon's favorite works of elven literature.
