Beacurs is the name of Gawain’s younger brother in Wolfram von Eschenbach’s Parzival. Beacus is implied to be a Knight of the Round Table. Beacurs takes on the part of Gawain’s protect which in Chrétien de Troyes’ Perceval (romance) is assigned to Agravain. But Wolfram seems to assign more respect to Beacurs than is traditional to Agravain. The name Beacurs appears to represent French Beau-corps (‘Fair-body’). Sir Thomas Malory’s “Le Morte d'Arthur” tells a tale of Gawain’s brother Gareth in which Gareth is given the nickname Beaumains (‘Fair-hands’), and Gareth uses this name while he conceals his true identity.

Sir Thomas Malory’s “Le Morte d'Arthur” tells a tale of Gawain’s brother Gareth in which Gareth is given the nickname Beaumains (‘Fair-hands’), and Gareth uses this name while he conceals his true identity. Malory mostly identifies Gareth with the knight Gaheriet who is Gawain’s most prominent brother in the romances. Accordingly one might speculate that Wolfram’s Beacurs is a nickname for Gaheriet. However a knight named Gaherjet is also mentioned once by Wolfram in his poem as Gawain’s cousin.
