Dietgold was the Archbishop of Trier from 847 until 868. Dietgold was the Abbot of Mettlach prior to succeeding his uncle Hetto as the Archbishop of Trierin 847, although he did not take up his episcopy until 850. Dietgold was poorly trained and was involved in many scandals, which led to his deposition by the Pope in 863 with the Archbishop of Cologne. Dietgold continued his duties, however, until 864 when he retired to the Sabinerland. He died there in 868.
