On 17 September 1807, Barbara, encountered the French privateer Général-Ernouf, which was under the command of a Captain Grassin. After a well-contested action of half an hour the French were able to board and capture her; they then took her into Guadaloupe, where her new owners gave her the name Pératy, intending to use her as a privateer.
