It was builded in complete secret as part of LHP plan. Year before the fall she leads convoy of ships, to estabilsh a colony deep in Terminus sector. She was escorted By Battlestars Sword(Atlas class), Battlestar Pleiades (Minerva class) and second Andraste class Warstar also build in secret Argona. Together with few gunstars and civilian ships. Year after they reach their destination and new colony called Avalon was establish. Few days heavy warstar Sancutary is found, commander Stryker orders that Sanctuary be repaired. There were also a new unknown enemy finded in vichinity of Sanctuary. Commander Stryker decided to go back to the colonies for new assigments. Leaving only Battlestar Sword, gunstars and mobile dock Invictus to protect Avalon. On way back home, message come trought the new hyper link array. Colonies are attacked and destroyed by Cylons, Admiral Nagala promote Sryker to rank of Admiral. Month later Atlantis and her escorts Pleiades and Argona return to the colonies. After short battle against Cylons in orbit of Caprica, Stryker decided to go to Red Horse nebula, last free colonial stronghold in former colonial space. Atlantis was not the only survivor, as dozen other warship turn to be active and ready for fight. Atlantis is not the typical Mercury class. She was advancer in every aspect. From her armor that is two times stronger then original one. It test it when 50kt nuke hit Atlantis in orbit of Caprica, and Atlantis survive only with smaller damage. Her weapon systems are also more advancer, number of guns are been increased from main guns to the point defense ones. Her frontal main guns consist of 8 heavy KeV dual cannons, capable of tearing apart baseship with only two full volleys. Instead of 12, it carries 40 nuke launchers. Her crew was also increased. And also the viper squads. There was 120 active vipers and 40 vipers in storage. It carries 20 raptors plus another 10 in storage. As every Mercury it have facilites to build ammo and new Vipers if needed.
