| - Jaffar began work as a smuggler for the Hutt cartels, transporting goods around the galaxy. When the Sith Imperium began aggressively subjugating worlds, Jaffar paid close attention for signs of oppression. He began secretly supplying rebel movements within the Imperium with equipment and goods as a side job. Following the Battle of Saleucami, Jaffar stopped working for the Hutt cartels and began his own smuggling ring. With the Galactic Alliance struggling to put up a solid resistance to the Imperial expansion, the Mandalorian clans withdrawing to Alliance space, and the Imperial Knights attempting to restore the old Empire, Jaffar believed he could turn a fortune by offering his services. In order to bypass Imperial inspections, Jaffar often posed as a businessman selling spices from Genassa. Due to the enactment of Imperial martial law, Jaffar is registered in the Imperial database under the pseudonym Colm Marisun, claiming residence on Telos. Jaffar set up his smuggling headquarters on Chazwa, in order to take advantage of both the Perlemian Trade Route and the Hydian Way while masking his operations within the planet's heavy space traffic. From Chazwa, Jaffar coordinated his efforts with other smugglers to send goods to their employers across Imperial space. However, his activities earned him the ire of the Ubiqtorate, the Empire's covert intelligence agency. The Ubiqtorate was able to track down Jaffar's smuggling ring, through the information they obtained about the rebel cells that Jaffar was supplying. In a covert Imperial sting operation, Jaffar was targeted by Imperial agents to be captured and brought to Imperial space for interrogation.
