The long line is a space contructed from two closed long rays, each with ω1 half-open line segments glued end-to-end, themselves glued together on their closed ends. It can be considered to be a number line, like the real line, but with all countable ordinals, along with a second copy in the opposite order (corresponding to the negative numbers), included rather than just finite ordinals and their reverse.
