As one of the first of several large-scale shopping malls in Surea, City Square Plaza's planners expected it to change local consumer behavior to Western-style one-stop shopping. City Square Plaza's total 35 stories is attributed to Surea's extremely expensive land costs. The plaza's architects were the Jerde Partnership and DP Architects Pte Ltd. Along with hundreds of shops, the mall houses three mega food courts, a 18-screen multi-cinema complex, an aquarium attraction, two large bookstore, an art museum, and a Science Discovery Centre. It also features a game area which is used to film computer game tournaments (for which Surea is known) which are broadcast on local television. It also houses a 15 stories, 686 room, luxury hotel named GardenCity Hotel and 50 units of exclusive 13 stories signature offices. There are also stages inside and outside the mall for seasonal events and public appearances by celebrities.
