Much of the world's modern countries are now divided, allowing smaller ones to grapple for influence which would have otherwise been theirs. Colonial empires still stand strong and many nations remain unchanged in a world frozen for a single year, allowing numerous governments to never progress beyond their as-of status of yesteryear.
