- Gil-galad was the son of Fingon who became the last High King of the Noldor in Middle-earth after the death of Turgon. He dwelt in Lindon after the end of the First Age and befriended Elendil when he arrived from Númenor. He marched on Sauron with Elendil and his sons, Isildur and Anarion, as well as a mighty army known as the Last Alliance of Elves and Men. None of the hosts of Mordor could withstand Gil-galad's spear, Aiglos, but he was finally slain along with Elendil on the slopes of Mount Doom after fierce combat with Sauron. He and Elendil were avenged by Isildur, who cut the Ring from Sauron's hand.
