Metz played his entire NHL career in a Leaf uniform. He won 4 Stanley Cups with the Leafs and was one of the more efficient penalty-killers of his day. He played 518 career NHL games, scoring 131 goals and 119 assists for 250 points. His brother, Don Metz also played his entire career with the Toronto Maple Leafs. He played two years of junior hockey with the St. Michael's Majors in 1932-33 and 1933-34, winning the Memorial Cup in the latter year. In 1942-43 and 1943-44 he played senior hockey in Nanaimo. Metz retired in 1948.
