Anthony McParland's father was a farmer who owned land near Dansville, New York. He was descended from a Scots-Irish family. The McParland family made their home available to their son and his sergeant, Patrick Driscol, in July 1814, while Driscol recovered from the amputation of his left arm after the Battle of Chippewa.
