It is an expansive and quite dangerous region of land that consists of little more than ash and cinders - the ruin of what was once a dark and twisted forest that covered the land before the year 624 ATA. This forest - known as the Sanguine Forest - was ominous and tainted by Shadow, inhabited by Wildlings, Dark Wildlings, and evil greater evils that will never be witnessed by the human eye again. The Sanguine Forest was razed to the ground by the dragoness Kalath'aria to purge the land of this festering darkness.

Though the Ashlands themselves are not much of an improvement, it is rumored by those with an affinity for arcane law that a Shadow Demon had infested this forest, and was smote by the dragoness before it could wreak havoc on an unsuspecting Fastheld. While many refute such claims, there never the less exists an exceptionally large tusked and horned skull within the heart of the Ashlands named as the Skull of the Defiler that defies all logical explanations. It is believed that these blackened remains are proof enough of such demonic claims.
