Helpers are assistants which will help in combat in various ways. There are a total of three helpers which are scattered around the map. All of them are in hidden areas, which will only appear on the map once the player accesses them at least once. Two are available at soon as their area is unlocked; the third, which is in Area 1, only becomes available once a Hellhound is defeated. Helpers are not acquired automatically; instead, they can be individually hired and let go as the player desires. Also, if helpers die in battle, they must be re-hired.

- Unlike Kirby, Helpers can repeatedly double-jump in midair, and so do not have to inflate themselves to fly. Some Helpers like Birdon and Capsule J/Capsule J2 have an improved ability to fly. This allows Helpers to attack in midair, as they do not have to spit out air beforehand. In Kirby Super Star Ultra, Helpers have a significant role in Helper to Hero, a sub-game where both the first and second players can play as a Helper with the goal of defeating a series bosses, thus proving the Helper to be a true hero rather than just a side character.
- Helper was a robot featured in Futurama. During the episode "Godfellas", after Bender goes missing, the Planet Express crew bring in Helper in an effort to cheer Philip J. Fry up. However, unlike Bender, Helper is always cheerful and helpful. Fry quickly found Helper annoying and dismissed him.
