The master systems display is a LCARS-based cutaway diagram of a Federation or Starfleet starship, usually housed in engineering and/or on the bridge. Crew use the MSD to monitor the performance of various shipboard systems. The master systems display is sometimes called the master situation monitor or master situational display. The USS Enterprise-D was the first televised starship to have an MSD.
