Currently, only one known Asupial is being held in captivity. It was found and has been raised since the late 1980s in Oregon. It was given the name "Matthew-Kirk" in honor of the two hunters that brought it in. It has conceived on a few rare occasions, but the weak young have been unable to survive beyond the first three months.
