USS Barnstable County (LST-1197) was named after Barnstable County, Massachusetts. She was laid down on 19 December 1970 at San Diego, California, by the National Steel and Shipbuilding Corporation; launched on 2 October 1971. Commander. Warren R. Ellsworth was in command Barnstable County was the nineteenth ship of the Newport class of amphibious ships.
