Samuel "Sam" Boyce was a Labour Party politician in West Ham. He entered West Ham County Borough Council in the 1930s and was leader of the controlling Labour group on the council from the 1940s. He was Mayor of West Ham for 1961-62. With the abolition of the county borough he became a member of the Greater London Council representing Newham 1964 – 1973 Committee Chair Supplies 4 May 1965, and was leader of Newham London Borough Council until the 1970s. The Samuel Boyce Unit, a day care centre for elderly people in Plaistow, was named after him.
