When an interviewer pointed out the similarity of Connor's first name and the character Benson, wondering if Connor inspired the character or were similar to each other, Regular Show creator J.G. Quintel clarifies: "OK, here’s the real story: we definitely mix up Benton and Benson’s names all the time. And we call Benton, Benson on accident constantly, and I feel bad about it." Connor states he has gotten used to being called Benson accidentally: "Everyone does it and I’m used to it by now. I knew the trouble I was getting into. I was like, ARGH, you know you’re going to get called this! You know you are!" Quintel continues, stating Benton and Benson's names are pure coincidence: "BUT! It is not based on Benton! But at the same time it is funny that the names are so similar that people constantly mix them up." For his work on Regular Show, he has also been nominated for an Annie Award for his work in storyboarding. He has also made a minicomic, entitled The Embarrassing Story Chronicles. Benton also has a cousin named Dwight and a sister named Liz. In addition to his work on Regular Show, he also wrote and storyboarded for Adventure Time, and as mentioned above, is an alumnus of The Marvelous Misadventures of Flapjack.
