  • Fountain Parker Harbarger & Associates is an independent insurance agency located in Huntsville Alabama. It's long history in the community has allowed it to bear witness to the city's growth, and the expansion of many local businesses including the Huntsville International Airport, the growth of the downtown area, and Redstone Arsenal just to name a few. Beginning in 1886, the grandfather of current-day FPH&A, the GW Jones Company opened it’s doors. At the time, GW Jones Company was a main-street, generationally owned business with hands in farming, insurance, and engineering. It wasn't until 1923 when Ray Jones, the patriarch of the GW Jones & Sons, Inc received an appointment as a resident agent for the Hartford Insurance Group. It's this original invitation that hangs in the conference room of current day FPH&A. Between 1931-46; The Jones family continued to operate the company until after WWII when J.O. “Pick Johnson became the agency manager and headed up the office during the Huntsville/ Marshall boom. During his tenure he grew the business while witnessing the Huntsville/ Marshall boom which included the development of the Saturn V rocket. He passed away in 1970. After which, Ted Fountain was hired to manage the insurance operations; at that time the agency covered many local restaurants and businesses including Burger Chef, Burger King, and the rapidly growing airport authority. In 1989, Ron Lankford, Dick Fountain, and Greg Parker bought the existing main street company and founded Lankford, Fountain and Parker Insurance downtown on Franklin St. In 1992, a name change and relocation occurred and Lankford, Fountain, Parker and Hymer arose to Huntsville’s first skyscraper, the AmSouth Building downtown. Three years later, Ron Lankford retired and Fountain, Parker and Hymer moved to the current location at the corner of Washington Street and Franklin where they marked the 50th anniversary of the agency in 1997. Finally in 2005, Ted Fountain sold his existing ownership in the company and it’s current partners of Mark and David Harbarger, Connie Waldrip and John Friesen. Since 1990 when the modern history of the company began, FPH&A has experienced record growths and are now carrying more policies for more companies and individuals than ever before in its history. Today FPH&A remains one of the oldest independent insurance companies in the community.
