- Geas, Fate or Taboo, is an intricate 'programmed' "trap"/"curse" spell, placed upon an individual. The geas forces the affected character to perform certain actions, or refrain from certain actions. Failure to meet the conditions set forth by the geas results in specific effects determined by the caster. The "Mark of the Oathbreaker" will be placed upon the victim, which can cause aggressive behavior from, or vulnerability to, previously passive or harmless creatures, reduction in Luck and even Level Down.
- A Geas is a spell used to seal an oath or to force someone to do the caster's bidding. Should the target of a geas spell fail in their quest or break their oath, they will suffer dire consequences, like grievous pain and/or death. The geas spell cannot be dispelled by any conventional means like Dispel Magic or Remove Curse. The only way to remove geas in the first game is to use the Geas Removal Scroll from Jalantha Mistmyr during the quest Marek and Lothander.

- Also spelled alternately as geis , a geas is a form of magical compulsion or curse that originates in Celtic mythology. Those under a geas are required to fulfill certain conditions or are otherwise changed. One of the most famous is that of Cuchulainn, who was under numerous geasi such as that he must never eat the meat of a dog or refuse food offered by a woman. When an old hag offered him dog meat, he was forced to break one geas or the other, which eventually led to his death. Examples of Geas include:
