Many of the Church Fathers —Irenaeus, Clement of Alexandria, Origen, and Jerome— have referred to a Hebrew Gospel. Nicholson and other modern scholars believe that there was only one such gospel. However, Funk and others have called this into question. They believe that there were several Jewish Gospels, some of which were non Hebrew in nature. Pierson Parker and his followers take the position that there was only one Hebrew Gospel but several "editions" of it in circulation.
