A space capsule is a type of spacecraft that is usually on top of a rocket, which blasts it off into outer space. The capsule then can separate from the rocket, if desired, and then can return to its' world by parachute or by some other means. Superman removed the space capsule from the Mars 1 rocket when the rocket fuel burst into flames and caused the rocket to explode. Because he removed the capsule, he therefore saved the lives of the astronauts.
