He finally tells the group that Fain will harm Emond's Field if he does not find him, which was part of the message from Barthanes. Uno comes in, and said he could not find any people and most of the houses are stripped and the livestock gone. Ingtar begins to organize a wider search for the trail left by Fain. Rand goes upstairs, and finds a lumpy bed. It will do, he thinks, there’s nowhere else to sleep. Ba'alzamon is standing next to Rand’s bed. He calls Rand Lews Therin again, and asks if he will kill everything he loves again. Rand says he is not Lews Therin, and that he will die before he follows him. Rand is holding saidin, and hurls it at Ba’alzamon. Ba’alzamon again says he is the only one who can help Rand learn to channel. He squeezed his eyes shut and can see tendrils of smoke rising from the chair, so he knows he had a real dream again.
