However, George lacks confidence around the series' male characters. George was brought to the forefront of the series when he features in a homelessness storyline. Hollyoaks worked with the charities Centrepoint andShelter to conduct research into the issue. Roberts said the storyline raised awareness of a taboo subject in the media. The storyline portrayed George dealing with various aspects of homelessness and offered viewers an insight to the character. He has an "unlikely" friendship with Callum Kane (Laurie Duncan) and his dynamic with Phoebe Jackson (Mandip Gill) reveals that George puts up an act around others to fit in. Anthony D. Langford of AfterElton.com has praised the storyline for highlighting the issue of homeless gay teenagers, while a columnist for Soaplife has embraced George's openness about his sexuality.

The farms had been in the Smith family for four generations, but after the start of World War II, they were taken over by the British Government for war work. Smith started courting Mimi Stanley in the spring of 1932, but was thwarted by her indifference and her father's interference. After delivering milk to the hospital where she worked he gave her an ultimatum that she must marry him, "or nothing at all!" On 15 September 1939, she finally married him. They bought a semi-detached house called Mendips, named after the range of hills, at 251 Menlove Avenue, Liverpool. Lennon lived with Smith and his wife for the majority of his childhood, and Smith taught the young Lennon to read, read him nursery rhymes at night, and later taught Lennon how to solve crossword puzzles. He also taught him to draw and paint and bought him his first mouth organ. Smith collapsed and died on a Sunday at his home of a liver haemorrhage, aged 52, and was buried in St Peter’s Church graveyard, Woolton.

In truth, Smith and Drinkwater set Bogdan up as a favor to Croatia's ally Nazi Germany, to secure access to German oil. The Soviet Union had recently been creating trouble in the Middle East, leaving British access to oil there uncertain.

As Founding Father he was involved in the foundation of many institutions and organizations, such as the police system. George Smith was often nicknamed London Man or the Police Man, referring to both his origin and his rather severe thoughts of government and police. George Smith is known for his love for Kinley, where he lived the last years of his life. He loved the quietness and peace of this small town, more than the city Noble City was becoming. He had lived in a small settlement situated where Kinley would later be built since 1880 and stayed there his entire life, except for his last months. He got ill and left for Noble City for a better hospital. He died in the Noble City General Hospital on December 12, 1911 and was buried at the Long Road Cemetery. His great-grandson, George Smith IV, would become a local politician, serving as Noble City Mayor for six years.
